Lehmann Toys
The Lehmann Company was founded by Ernst Paul Lehmann in the late 19th Century. Lehmann produced tinplate toys which were lightweight and much cheaper than other toys of the time.
Lehmann Toys may have been cheap at the time but nowadays there is a strong following of collectors for these toys. This is probably due to their colourful lithography and excellent mechanics. Not only that they were extremely entertaining and came in the form of animals, humans and cars.
Each Lehmann toy would have its own name, such as Tom, the climbing Monkey. In the American version, he was called Curt. Other toys included dancers and Balky Mule.
Lehmann Toys are marked with the makers name and a bell in a circle with an e on the inside of the bell. Lehmann toys can range in price from $100 in fair condition up to around $800 although sometimes an extremely rare model can run into the thousands..
